Greetings Saints!

Last week’s church picnic was a lot of fun and the weather was very nice. As we look ahead, there is much to cover so I will try to be brief.

Today, the school children head to Seminole for the Academic Bowl. Kids demonstrate their skills in math, spelling, piano, art, forensics and general knowledge in the team Quiz Bowl. Go Crusaders!

Sunday kicks off the most important week of the year, Holy Week. It starts with our Palm Sunday celebration. (We also start a new Bible Study series, “Overcoming…”) Thursday, 7 pm, is our Maundy Thursday service where we recall Christ’s institution of the Lord’s Supper. Good Friday services are at 1 pm and 7 pm. The school children will sing during the afternoon service. Finally, all of this culminates with our Easter celebration nest Sunday. Here is the full schedule:
          Sunrise service – 7 am
          Easter breakfast – 8 am
Easter Egg Hunt – 9 am
          Festival service – 10 am
We look forward to celebrating Christ’s victory over sin, death and the devil with you. Note: Because of the Easter activities, there is no Sunday school next week. Also, because the Thursday and Friday services, there is no Wednesday service. Lastly, there is still time to sign up for Easter lilies and help with the Easter breakfast.

Looking further ahead, April 30 will be our last Sunday Funday. It will be a special water day. It will also be a time to invite parents with kids who might be interested in our school.

Speaking of the school, both Phil and Staci Warnecke accepted their calls to King of Kings. Praise the Lord! On a side note, we are looking for help in the school in the form of an Athletic Director. This will be a part time position. Please contact Principal Randy Cochran for more information. Also related, Mr. Warnecke will lead a worship service in German the Wednesday after Easter at our regular 7 pm time. Speaking of German, the next Adult German class is this Sunday, after the worship service.

Finally, the South Atlantic District’s summer youth camps are now accepting registrations! The Amazing Race Teen Challenge is June 27-30 ($355/) in Kissimmee, FL and includes the Race at Epcot.
(Amazing Race All FormsCamp South—Soul Survivor is July 24-28 ($285/) in Covington, GA and includes, bowling, low ropes and the mudder course. (Camp South All FormsOrganizers are expecting 750 participants between both camps. Contact Pastor if you have any questions. You can watch promo videos for Camp Southand Amazing Race here.

That enough for this week. Now here’s today’s devotion:

Clean Hands, Pure Heart

Who may ascend the hill of the LORD? Who may stand in his holy place? He who has clean hands and a pure heart.
Psalm 24:3-4a

These words make me cringe! You too? I look at my heart and I don't see purity. Rather I see anger and fear, lust and greed, worry and bitterness and on and on and on. You too? And too often my hands are acting out what's in my heart! And God says what? He says that if I want to be able to stand in his holy place, if I want to be able to be at one with him, that my heart needs to be pure! I have no chance!

That is, on my own I have no chance.

But I'm not on my own. Rather, I have a Savior. I have a Savior whose heart was completely pure, whose hands were totally clean.

This week, more than any other week, we see the culmination of what it means that I have a Savior. I have a glorious King who enters in humility to give his life as a ransom. I have a Savior who gave us his wonderful meal by which he cleanses our hearts. I have a Savior who took my place to pay for my sins with his life and was raised to life for my justification. In him, I am washed clean. I am forgiven. I am given clean hands and a pure heart.

And with our hearts cleansed, to where can we ascend? Where can we stand? Yes, we can ascend the hill of the LORD, we can stand in his holy place. We can come into God's presence, for God has cleansed us. Stand there with grateful joy, O cleansed child of God!

Prayer:
O Savior, thank you for cleansing my heart that I might stand in your presence. Keep washing me, through Word and Sacrament, that I might ever stand before you in purity as your child. In your name I pray. Amen.
