Last weekend was great! Dinner Around Town was outstanding. Sunday Funday was even better. And Kindergarten Round-Up was a success. A big THANK YOU to all who participated!
It’s March and we have a number of big things coming up. For starters, Lent started and we have special Wednesday night services for the next five weeks. Supper is provided.
Wednesday, the school basketball team leaves for the Luther Prep basketball tournament in Watertown, WI. Games will be next Friday and Saturday. Depending how we do, our second game can be watched online at Lps.wels.net, either @ 6:00 or 7:00 pm locally (Court 2).
Wednesday, March 15, at 8:00 pm (after the Lenten service) we will hold a call meeting for a 3-5th grade teacher to replace Mr. Gurgel. All are invited.
March 19th, WELS Ministry of Christian Giving advisor Carl Leibner will be here to give a special presentation covering all sorts of topics like wills vs. trusts, Minor’s Trusts, guardianship, Power of Attorney for Health Care vs. Living Wills, beneficiaries, POD’s and TOD’s that can avoid probate—this and so much more. Prior to his call to WELS, Carl was a Certified Financial Planner with over 30 years in finances. A special lunch will be provided for all attendees.
Finally, a few weeks ago heavy winds damaged our front sign. We are working on a replacement, but there is a cost to it. Right now, we should be able to get it done for under $4000. We are halfway toward that goal. Please consider giving toward this project. Besides our steeple, it is our most visible asset.
That’s all for this week. Now here’s today’s devotion:
Revealed by the Spirit
It is written: “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him” - but God has revealed it to us by his Spirit...We have not received the spirit of the world but the Spirit who is from God, that we may understand what God has freely given us.
1 Corinthians 2:9-10, 12
“I don’t get it!” “I don’t understand!”
As students in school or learners in life we have been there. A difficult math problem. A perplexing philosophical question. An irreconcilable relationship issue. Aren’t you grateful for the patient teacher, the caring classmate, or the wise parent who helps you? The light bulb goes on. The answer is revealed. “Ahhh…now I get it! Now I understand!”
On our own, we are in the dark when it comes to understanding God and knowing how he operates. But that doesn’t keep us from trying. We can see the world with our eyes. We can listen to philosophical wisdom. We can use our brains to find answers that make sense…at least partially…we think. But when it comes to really knowing God, those methods all come up short.
God doesn’t want us to be in the dark. He does reveal himself and his ways. He does it by his Spirit. The Spirit reveals God by shining the light on Jesus. In the Bible he first shows us our need for Jesus. We can’t do what God demands of us to win his love. We can’t do what it takes to be perfect like him so that we might live with him.
Then the Spirit shows us what God has done for us in Jesus. Jesus lived and died for us to solve the problem that has no other solution. He won forgiveness for our failings. He rose from the dead to show his power over death and every other problem of life. He promises that he is with us in this world that he controls. And one day he will take those who trust in him to live with him in heaven. The Spirit shows us God. The light bulb goes on. The answer is revealed. “Ahhh…now I get it! Now I understand!”
Lord God, thank you for sending your Spirit through your Word to show me your love in Jesus. Amen.
