Hurricane Irma hit all of Florida
I have reached out to most of you. Generally speaking, everyone is cleaning up. About half of you lost power; some are still without power. Many had minor damage, lost shingles, down trees and the like. One lost a car. Another a shed with lawn equipment. Still, God's grace spared us from what could have been much worse. Others parts of the state were hit much worse.
As for the KOK campus, our front sign is bent about ten degrees. There were leaks in the steeple and in two classrooms. The trees lost half their leaves and many limbs but should recover--all except the papaya tree. It snapped. We lost power for only a few seconds, but the phone and internet were down for half a day. All these are minor. The new roof held up; the old roofs, too. The steeple is still standing; our fences, too. As I said, God is gracious.
School is still out and will be , possibly too. Other events will go on as planned: Breakfast For Your Heart, John Bible Class, afternoon Catechism Class, Anniversary Committee Meeting and night service.
Looking ahead to this weekend, we will still have our workday, with a "plus." We will still move the pews and sanctuary furniture, but we will also do some additional clean-up around campus. If you can spare an hour or three, your help would be greatly appreciated.
Finally, if you are one of the unfortunate ones to be without power (and can still read this) and you would like an air conditioned spot to sleep or have your meal or do some work, the church AC is working fine along with the kitchen appliances. We are happy to help.
We thank the Lord for keeping us safe and pray for those still effected by Irma. And if there is some great need of which I am not aware, WELS Christian Aid and Relief is available. Just let me know.
The Lord's peace be with you!
