That the Lord would bless them as we share them
Christ comes, bearing gifts. This past Sunday, we opened another "gift" that Jesus brings for us--the gift of joy. Below is an excerpt adapted from Sunday's sermon on Zephaniah 3:14-17. If you would like to go back and read the sermon in full--Rejoice! ...Even Today, simply click on the link.
How can you find joy living in a world like this? People you know are worried about their families. They’re worried about their future and the future of their kids and grandkids. They wonder if life will keep getting worse because everything seems to be ripping apart or turning upside down. You worry too, and then you see reports of terrible tragedies, monstrous acts against the unborn, against babies and children and teens and adults, against women and men. What joy can you possibly have living in a world like this?
It's true. There are so many unanswered questions, so many things that are shaking people to the core of their being. Yet do you remember who you are? You are a child of God, and there is one thing of which you can be absolutely certain. ‘The Lord…is with you…. The Lord your God is with you, he is mighty to save.’ God isn’t some distant deity who has nothing to do with what’s happening here on earth and who doesn’t pay attention to his people. No, our God is the exact opposite. This God is with you, in the midst of his people with his protecting power.
He’s the Mighty Savior who took on your judgment, who turned back your enemy Death, who opened the gates of heaven for you with his glorious resurrection. That’s the One, who’s by your side. He protects you from harm. He delivers you from evil. Does that mean he won’t let evil come into your life? No. As long as you live in this evil, sinful world, as long as you still carry that inbred sinful nature within you, evil will still be present. This is the One who has overcome the world! This is the One who can actually do something about evil in this world! This is the One who will one day remove the evil that causes people to do awful things against young and old alike.
Now if you’re still not sure he can or will do that, just look back to the Christchild lying in that feeding trough. He came into our world of violence and evil and sin to rescue people so broken, so deeply lost in sin and unbelief. He came into our world to deliver you from hell. Look back to the dusty roads he trod walking in your shoes, facing your temptations, overcoming evil for you. Look back to the cross and see what seemed like the darkest day in human history. See Jesus overcome evil for you. Look back to the tomb and see in its emptiness the proof that ‘the Lord your God’ has overcome the world.
So “don’t fear…don’t let your hands hang limp." Refreshed by his comfort and peace and forgiveness through word and water and meal, rejoice because you have another opportunity to serve your Lord, who’s with you. He guaranteed that with blood and an empty tomb.
Can life be overwhelming? Absolutely, especially this time of year. Do you feel exhausted? Frazzled? Are you filled with worry? Fear? Pain? Anxiety about the future and about your life? On top of all that, we live in a shockingly evil world. So it’s hard to live in this world. It’s so challenging to rejoice in these Advent weeks before Christmas, but there’s one thing without any doubt that can cause you to rejoice. The Lord of free and faithful grace—Jesus Christ, your loving, living, coming Savior—is with you with his boundless, protecting love. So as the final days of Advent preparation come to a close, let’s rejoice….even today, because the Lord our God is with us!
Rejoicing in the Coming Savior,
Coming Soon @ King of Kings

Raise Your Voices This Christmas! - We have formed a family choir--men, women, and kids--to sing a couple pieces for our Christmas Eve candlelight service. We have practices in the balcony planned for this Sunday after worship and on Christmas Eve @ 6:30 pm. If you would like to participate, please contact Randy Cochran or join us for practice!
Who Will You Invite? - Invites are still available to invite friends, family, neighbors, classmates, co-workers, etc. to our Christmas Eve Candlelight Service @ 7 pm & our Christmas Day Festival Service @ 10 am. Let's get the word out about our Savior's birth!
Weekly Service Opportunities – Each week we have opportunities to serve those who attend our worship services. We have a number of great opportunities to do that—greeters, ushers, refreshments, and altar care. To help us better coordinate these weekly service opportunities, we are asking you to sign up in the entryway for the service opportunities that interest you and your family. Rotations will be formed with assignments through June. If you are unable to serve on an assigned weekend, you can switch with another household. We plan to have the new rotations out on Sunday, December 30. If you have any questions, please reply to this e-mail!
Winter Camp – Kim Smith, our After School Care director, is offering childcare services during the Christmas break from December 27-January 4. Cost: $100 (1 camper), $175
(2 campers), $200 (3 campers). For more info, call the church office!
Every Member Visits – Slots for you to meet with Pastor will be made available in the New Year! He plans to meet with all of our member households, so please be sure to sign up when slots become available!
Growing in Hope – Why does it matter that Jesus is my Savior? Does the Bible really apply to my life? How can I become a member of King of Kings? We offer a Bible information course that answers those questions and many more. Classes are scheduled to accommodate your schedule. If you are interested in signing up for our next session, please reply to this e-mail!
An Encouraging Word: The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned...For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. (Isaiah 9:2,6)
