King of Kings Connections - 26 June 2020

Dear Family in Christ,

"I don't have to, but I have to thank you."

A fellow pastor shared with me a story about his mom, whom his family describes as "The Queen of Thank You Notes." He recently received a birthday gift from his parents. So he sent a thank you note. Well, his mom, as has been her practice, sent back a thank you note for his thank you note. Thinking he would be funny, he tried to "out-thank-you" his mom. He sent a thank you note for her thank you note for his thank you note. A week later, he received from his mom a thank you note for his thank you note for her thank you note for his thank you note. "Mom, you win! I give up!"

When someone does something kind for us, we respond with thanks, and the size of our thanks depends on the impact of the act of kindness. For something small, like letting someone go ahead of you in a line at the store, you might simply say, "Thank you." For something big, like if someone offered to pay off the rest of your mortgage, a thank you note may not be enough. You might even be tempted to kiss that person's feet.

How would you thank someone who saved your life? How would you thank someone who even suffered to rescue you and enable you to enjoy the rest of your life? I'm guessing you would be eternally grateful to that person. You would want to make sure that you lived every day out of thanks for what that person did.

So how do you thank Jesus for doing even more than that for you? The Apostle Paul tells us in 2 Corinthians 5:14-15"For Christ's love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died. And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves, but for him who died for them and was raised again."

Jesus suffered the eternal death of hell and then rose again to rescue you and give you life. How doesn't force us to thank him or obey him or serve him. He motivates us with his grace--his undeserved love for sinners like us. He doesn't use force to bend us to his will. He woos us with his overwhelming love that moved him to endure all that, so you and I could live for him. He has done more for us than anyone else can possibly do. We can't possibly out-thank Jesus, but we are compelled to thank him by living each new day for Christ. So in your unique God-given callings today, live your "thank you" to Jesus.

Preparing for Worship This Weekend

If you plan to attend in-person worship this weekend (June 27-28), please be sure to RSVP at the following link:

In-Person Worship RSVP for June 27-28

You can also RSVP by calling the church office @ 407-628-5696. Your RSVP enables us to have a clear idea of how much seating we have available before each service.

Wearing Masks: Please remember that the Orange County mask requirement remains in place. Here again is how that applies to our situation for this weekend:

1. Masks need to be worn when coming to or departing from worship. Once you are seated, as long as you are 6 ft. from anyone else not from your household, you may remove your mask during worship.

2. Ushers will wear masks when working with people before and after worship. Those masks can be removed when 6 ft. of social distancing is in place.

3. Pastor will not wear a mask while conducting worship, but will wear a mask before and after worship.

4. We will not turn anyone away from attending in-person worship if they do not have a mask or are not wearing one.

Disposable masks are available at church. Please keep these plans in mind as you prepare for worship this weekend. If you have questions or concerns, please reply to this email or contact Pastor.

If you will not be attending in person, please join us on Facebook Live @ Facebook.com/VisitKoK for Sunday worship @ 10 am ET! As you prepare for worship this weekend, check out Matthew 10:34-42 to get yourself ready for worship this week!

Ministry Updates

Saturday Clean-Up Day: On Wednesday night, a severe thunderstorm with heavy winds, rain, and marble-sized hail rolled over our campus. Thankfully, damage appears to be minimal. However, we have some brush clean-up to do in addition, as well as some other needed tasks to do. If you would like to help out with this, we are planning to have an on-campus work day starting at 8:30 am this Saturday. Please contact Kevin Zastrow or Pastor if you plan to help out!

Quarterly Voters' Meeting: After worship this Sunday, we will hold our quarterly voters’ meeting. This meeting will include the approval of our initial 2020-21 budget, the election of officers, and the extension of our K-2 Call. All voting members are strongly encouraged to attend! Voting members, if you attend on Saturday and would like to attend, be sure to come to the church by 11 am on Sunday. If you are going to watch online, but would like to participate in the meeting via Zoom or Google Meet, please contact Pastor so we can make arrangements.

Justified by Faith Alone, Part II: A Digital Study of Romans 9-16: Pastor Gumm will continue Phil Warnecke's Google Meet Bible study on Romans, starting this Wednesday @ 7 pm. Election Volunteers Needed: Volunteers needed to run the King of Kings polling place for the municipal primary election on August 18. This would involve attending a training session on a date of your choice and helping to check in voters on that election day. With the exception of one position, all volunteers must be Orange County residents. Please contact our coordinator Daniel Golisch, if you are interested.

Teacherage Assistance: Work continues on our teacherage in preparation for the arrival of the Krause family in late July.
